PowerShot E1 Highlights

10.0-megapixel resolution, powerful 4x optical zoom with Optical Image Stabilizer The PowerShot E1 introduces you to a new level of performance with 10.0 megapixels for exceptional image quality, a powerful 4x optical zoom that makes everything up close and unforgettable, and an advanced Optical Image Stabilizer that puts a non-stop life in sharp focus.

Stand out from the crowd with this hip new design The PowerShot E1 has the savviest fashion sense. It’s as hands-on as a matching wrist strap. And as eye-opening as a Startup Screen custom designed for each color. Follow your whims and see how easy it is to change the look of the Menu -- even the sounds of the shutter. Self-expression is the irresistible welcome of the PowerShot E1. It’s the joy of design that happens to take performance pretty seriously.

DIGIC III Image Processor with Genuine Canon Face Detection With DIGIC III, your images boast superior quality, the camera operates at top efficiency and battery life is enhanced. What’s more, DIGIC III enables Canon’s Face Detection, Motion Detection Technologies and Red-eye Correction to give you better, more true-to-life people shots. Simply press the shutter button halfway down, and the camera automatically pinpoints the faces in the scene and chooses the ideal focus point.

The camera controls exposure settings and flash to keep every face looking bright and natural. The camera also selects and sets the optimal exposure and ISO settings automatically to keep everything looking sharp and clear. Red-eye Correction can be handled in-camera, in two ways. The Red-eye Correction during shooting uses the Face Detection Technology to recognize and remove red-eye from images as they're taken, before the file is written to the memory card. It's also possible to correct red-eye during image playback, using simple settings in the PowerShot E1's menu.

iSAPS Technology is an entirely original scene-recognition technology developed for digital cameras by Canon. Using an internal database of thousands of different photos, iSAPS works with the fast DIGIC III Image Processor to improve focus speed and accuracy, as well as exposure and white balance.

DIGIC III features Face Detection technologies, giving you the best possible results in any shooting situation. Face Detection AF/AE sets the focus point and exposure for the faces of your subjects. Face Detection FE adjusts the flash to correctly illuminate your subject to provide the best balance between your subject and the overall scene, eliminating the common problems of over and underexposed faces.

Face Detection WB means the camera concentrates upon faces when calculating white balance for the best possible skin tones. Face Select and Track lets you highlight one face among several in a scene, and the camera concentrates on that person, even as they move around the scene. Face Detection Technology is a powerful contributing factor in Canon's Motion Detection Technology.

Simply press the Face Selector Button, then the selected face is double-framed and tracked when the face moves in the frame.

Life doesn’t give you second chances to capture special times. That’s why the PowerShot E1 features ISO 1600 and High ISO Auto settings that reduce the effects of camera shake and sharpen subjects in low-light situations, giving you greater shooting flexibility.

Red-eye Correction provides three options for removing red-eye from subjects in flash pictures. 1) The Red-eye Correction during shooting actually identifies and corrects red-eye in human subjects as pictures are taken.

2) The E1 can be set to automatically detect and correct red-eye during image playback.

3) You can manually locate any red eyes in a scene during image playback on the LCD screen, and command the camera to remove them.

A Wide Range of Shooting Modes Easy Mode and Easy Playback mode for peace of mind shooting and simplified operation. When you’re taking pictures, the only thing you want to think about is your subject.

That’s why the PowerShot E1 is equipped with Canon’s Easy Mode that works in the background to handle all the technical details for you. Now you can relax and concentrate on choosing just the right angle, capturing the perfect expression, framing your shot perfectly.

To make showing off your images just as carefree, the E1 features the new Easy Playback mode that makes viewing single images and slideshows on the camera effortless -- even if you’re new to digital photography!

And with 17 Shooting Modes including 8 Special Scene Modes, you’re ready for whatever shot comes your way.

The Complete Print Solution Print/Share Button for easy direct printing and downloading, plus ID Photo Print and Movie Print with select PIXMA Photo Printers and SELPHY Compact Photo Printers. The PowerShot E1's Print/Share button makes direct printing easier than ever.

Simply connect the E1 to a Canon PIXMA Photo Printer or SELPHY Compact Photo Printer or any PictBridge compatible photo printer, press the lighted Print/Share button and print! Also use the Print/Share button to transfer images to a computer (Windows and Macintosh).

I've had this camera for a few days, and already I love it. The points that have charmed me so far:

1- very low shutter lag. you can take a picture quickly, and capture exactly the scene you want (not the scene 2 to 5 seconds after you point your camera).

2- takes standard AA rechargeable batteries. also, you can turn off the LCD and use the old school view finder to save battery power in a pinch.

3- the 'print' button is programmable, so you can use it for a variety of other functions (useful to me because I almost never plug my camera directly into a printer).

4- the whole design of the camera is intuitive and easy to use.

The only less-than-stellar aspect of this camera is its size. It's not bulky, but there are much tinier cameras in this class on the market. I wasn't quite prepared to remove a star for that, though, as a reduction in size would likely mean an increase in price. I think the trade-off is fine.

Overall, I highly recommend this camera for point-and-shoot purposes. It's easily my favorite of the ~5 digital cameras I've owned over the years.
The Canon Powershot E1 is AMAZING!

I just needed a camera for fun..and I have had a Canon before. I didn't like that my old one had a rechargeable battery that didn't last long so I am really happy to find one like my old one that is a million times better in quality and it takes real batteries that LAST!! I LOVE IT!! Takes great pictures and it's super easy to use...comparing it to my old one (which was an Elph), it takes much faster pictures although you do have to hold the shutter button down to take a picture which is annoying to have to tell other people using it. Overall I highly reccommend it..takes great pictures!!!
My new favourite thing....

I bought this cool little blue camera for myself for Christmas. I've been using the Canon PowerShot SD400 Elph 5mp 3x Zoom for the past few years and have really enjoyed it; however, this new camera blows it out of the water!
Besides falling in love with the look and style of the E1 (it's the most beautiful shade of robin's egg blue I've ever seen), the pictures I've taken are incredible both in detail and clarity. And I'm equally impressed how close you can get to your subject with the zoom. I was going to get one of those Flip camcorders but the Movie Mode on this is perfect for capturing quick clips.
The functions are all quite simple to use, you really don't even have to read the manual. It also has an "Easy" mode, excellent for anyone who might be intimidated by cameras. I feel this would be a perfect camera for both ends of the spectrum, from the novice to the more experienced. I'm in love with it! Canon makes wonderful products.
Canon E-1 Camera

I had purchased a Canon A1000 IS in the summer and found this to be a powerful, small camera. I used the Canon comparison to compare the A1000 and E-1 and found them to be the same camera except for cosmetic differences. I bought several E-1 cameras as Christmas gifts for women in my family. It is small, easy to use, has both an LCD viewer and a view finder so that the sun and other bright lights do not overwhelm the LCD viewer. A novice user can put it on Easy mode and do quite well, leaving only the composition of the photograph as a challenge. I set my wife's camera and that of her sister on Automatic. Frankly, Automatic is a little better in program selection and is just as easy to use as is Easy mode. For more challenging photographs, you can select Portrait, and other Scene modes so it is versatile. It is small enough that I can carry it in a jacket pocket and I used one at the Tulsa State Fair 2008 so I had a ready camera with good capability without carrying a lot of weight. Arthritis has helped me to decide on items of less weight and bulk. The photographs I took of KOTV Channel Six personnel using the Portrait Mode turned out excellent and yes, I worked them in Photoshop CS4 but I had good sizes to begin with. The image size is 10MP so it is adequate for most prints for those who would tend to buy this camera. It is pretty as well as functional and its availability in several colors lets you buy it for family members without young women thinking you got everyone the same thing. Overall, it is an excellent choice.

This is a great little camera. Not as small as most but I chose it because I need something substantial to hold on too but not too bulky (credit card size difficult to hold) The color is a very light baby pink, not a deep pink color.(so maybe not a guy color?) It's very easy to use and change modes. The buttons are easy to get to and besides having a nice large LCD screen it also has a view finder (which was an extra for me) Pictures come out clear with no red eye. I love this little camera
