Product Description

White Knight Chronicles is an epic fantasy tale about two kingdoms in midst of a longstanding war. The King of Balandor, wishing to put an end to the war, invites the duke of Faria to his castle to celebrate his daughter's coming of age.

But this celebration is sabotaged by the Magi, a rogue sect seeking to steal the White Knight, an ancient weapon of war sealed beneath Balandor castle, in order to take over the world.

During the ensuing chaos, a young man named Leonard accidentally unlocks the power of the White Knight as he attempts to save the princess.

With this power, Leonard manages to fend off the Magi attack, but not before they escape with the princess.

With the kingdoms in chaos, Leonard is entrusted with the mission to find the Magi and rescue the princess. With the help of his trusted companions, they travel throughout Balandor and beyond on a quest to save the princess before the Magi unlock the other knights.

The journey is fraught with danger, with Magi warriors at every turn, mythical beasts and monsters to battle, and forbidden powers revealed.

As Leonard learns more about the power of the Knight, he realizes that unsealing all of them could trigger a calamity that could end the world.

(I'm only a few hours in to the game as I type this, right after meeting the Don in Albana and unlocking the binding shops.)

IGN, GameSpot, and the other websites and magazines that gave this game crappy reviews should really pop the disc back in and give it another go! DO NOT BELIEVE THEM! Honestly opinion =/= fact, and if the game appeals to you by all means pick it up, it's worth it in my opinion! The art direction is a little weird but slowly growing on me. It "looks" like a PS2 game, but honestly if you take the time to look around it is most def a PS3 game! Graphics are very crisp and clean and the animation is pretty well done too. The only problem are the lip syncs, but then that's always been a universal problem with JRPGs. Music is alright, but it does fit the theme and the mood of the scenes. Combat and character customizations are awesome and VERY in depth! But by far my favorite aspect of the game is GeoNet/GeoRama! Being able to play quests with up to four people is fun, and the community has been VERY friendly and helpful so far (besides a few bad apples on the in game message boards that got steamrolled over by everyone else!).

If I had to put it in to a few words, White Knight Chronicles is the best of Final Fantasy XII, Dark Cloud 2, Monster Hunter, and Final Fantasy XI all rolled up in to one!

Now, I must get back to my HomeTown...
Thought the battle system was simple? Think again.

Reviewer: J. C. Yoon,
I watched the IGN and other reviews and honestly was dissapointed at the game. Those reviews made me not play it the first night that I got it from the pre-order since the expectation of the game got lower.

I just set down this weekend to play for a few hours. At first, I somewhat had to agree with the reviews so I thought that was all.. By each level up, the whole game and the battle system grew on me. More combos and stats that I worked with, the more I appreciated the depth of this game.

By anymeans, this is no action RPG, this is basically a Turn based RPG with a freedom of movements in the battle. I find this a great combination that's similar to FF12. If you want to have a good battle, you need to understand your each skills and combos and what monster you're fighting. But is there a reward for this effort?

IGN mentioned that this game was way too easy. I kind of know what they mean in the story mode, but it is not the easiest game doing online quest. Yes, it is going to be easy if you go on a lvl.15 quest when you're lvl.30. But I recommend you doing those quests when you've hit that lvl, and it is not easy playing it alone without a party.

Out of all the bad points that IGN has mentioned which I disagree with all of them to a certain point, I'm going to strongly disagree with one of them. And that's the waiting time in the battle that newbie rpg reviewer mentioned. I challenge them to say the same statement for Bow attacks with a Light armor or clothing set. Since the wait time for an action heavly depend on what you're attacking with and what armor you're wearing, bow attacks are really fast and so are dagger types. I use 2h large sword...it is slow, but isn't that really necessary for any RPGs??? the balance? If you want to attack faster with the 2h sword, you can be naked and attack, it's fast, IGN does not point this out at all... Misleading us to think that the game is full of wasting time. In fact, I even switch to my Bow/white magic character while my 2h sword wait time to cast some buff on me then I switch back. The only thing that I dislike is the AI, your companions are really dumb when in battle... Except the healing part, but I can deal with this by switching back and forth when necessary.

I really can't explain all here, but I give this game a 5/5 for its class(rpg) on ps3 platform. It is as fun as demon's souls with a buddy or two. Let's face it, Americans are spoiled with fast paced games and no preparation for the battle, Japanese aren't. This game is not for everyone, I strongly recommend all the Monster hunter, FF11 gamers to try this game. The more you play, the more you really understand the depth of the game and I see a great potential of the toughest online quest to release... just when I am ready for it.
Awsome RPG

Reviewer: Dustin E. Hunt,
If you like RPG's then this game is a must have... Don't listen to anyone who says otherwise... A small problem with the lip sync, but obviously any decent sized RPG is going to have little problems... DO NOT take the advice of professional game critics, they are paid off!! If you liked FF12 or Star Ocean than you will like White Knight Chronicles.. It has a similar but not generic battle system, is easy to get into, and has the classic great story line of an RPG (if you disagree then you need to remember that RPG's were made big by a game were you ride on the back of a giant yellow bird).. Professional game critics criticized the lack of RPG's put out on the Ps3 then in the same breath pick apart every exclusive RPG made for the ps3, don't buy into everything they say...

Crazy Hybrid gone RIGHT

Ok before I forget all this stuff in my head:

Flaws:
1) Cut Scenes - holy! I must be getting old cause back in the day cutscenes were used to move and connect major plotpoints. In this game, everything warrants a cutscene.
New kid in town?(cue cutscene) Hey we need some wine (cue cutscene) Hi, I live over there (cue cutscene) Oh, Leonard! (cue cutscene) - My first playthrough was very painful because:

2) Quest tracker - Oblivion, this is not. You get a giant star (if you're on the same map) for a visual, or most likely you'll have to rely on the 'next location' tab on the open world map to tell you where the story is going. So if you're like me and bypassed the 4/5 cutscenes after major fights, you'll end up with doing some additional running around to get your ground again.
3) Massive Zones - with respawning mobs. Great for grinding, sucks if you're lost.

Now, with that said:

Pros:
1) Avatar (Creation) (Sp/Mp) - So right off the bat you create your avatar, a common event in most RPGs. Customization is ULTRA detailed (Brow length, jaw width, eyebrow, eyelid shape, angle, smirks, frowns, smiles, you can wink!, height, weight - these are just an example - there are over 8 tabs of customization, each tab breaks down the category even further)or you can choose from pre-made templates. It gets better - the avatar you create plays the 'new kid/sidekick' role in the sp mode, and then gets used as your main toon on GeoNet.
2) SP Campaign - Short and sweet. If you're looking for an epic saga, taking up weeks of your time to meet the last boss, this aint it. If anything, the SP reminds me of Neon Genesis Evangelion meets Super Mario (yes, she looks just like that princess). Took me all of 3 days to finish (2 if I didnt endure 90% of all the game's cutscenes. The 'ending' was weird, and because I was yet again skipping cutscenes, I didnt fully realize it was the end until the credits starting rolling.
Bah , whatever, on to GeoNet!!!

GeoNet - IMO, the real game! You can play your avatar both online and offline. This was a crazy concept to wrap my head around: You're the sidekick in the SP, but in MP you're the man. It's like the Clark Kent syndrome.

While you *can* play online right after the prologue, there wont be much you can do. As you progress in the game, you will come across Guild shops in each town. Each mission is specific to a certain location so you're ability to run different Guild missions relies on your own sp progress.
You start off with a simple Rank1 GeoRama, certain conditions need to be met in order to improve it. As it improves your 'square footage' increases, allowing more room for additional buildings.
And then things go gray (for me): As your town grows it will need residents. All throughout the (sp) game there are people you can recruit into your GeoRama. Each resident has a trade (Miner, farmer, lumberjack etc) and each trade breaks down into 3 specialties. You can also place shops (armory, general supplies, binding shops, etc) your shops will sell the items your tradesfolk create. Depending on the people you recruited, no two shops/town could possible be alike. Also, there are different levels of tradesfolk, some are highly skilled and require much higher ranks, others are simple and perfect for new towns. In your GeoRama you'll have to find a balance between real estate and available shops/houses/items. Also, nothing is bought with money (except for the ever so convenient Sony Online Store) everything is made with in-game gold and the *RESOURCES YOU GATHER*. If you're not a pack rat or have ADD, you might have a sad GeoRama :(

Combat: Basically, it's weird, but it works. Basically everyone works off their own 'timer' as the timer completes a cycle you can begin a new turn. The heavier your armor, the slower your 'clock'. Once you see it in action with 3 party members, it makes sense, but yes, it's still slow.
Combos: This is a blast! You can create you own string of combos (ground attacks, juggles, mid-air attacks, buffs, etc)
Customze: Another Gem: Unlike the NPCs, your avatar has no restrictions on his 'class' which means you can make him into whatever you desire: Axe wielding magician? Yep. Plate wearing, 2handed healer? Yep.

There's too much to cover here but all in all, and I dont think this game is for everyone but for those who get the concept behind this hybrid, you will have a blast.
All in all,(although I understand L5 has done this before) I give this game a 5 because of the originality of this concept and the hours upon hours of gameplay for the GeoNet part.
